World War I veteran, Horace Pippin overcame adversity to become a professional artist. His paintings feature a folk-inspired style and depict contemporary African Americans as well as references to American history.
Art historian Jeff Mishur discusses Pippin and his relationship to the Harlem Renaissance movement during the period between the wars. Mishur is co-owner of Art Excursions, a business providing art-related private guiding, lectures and small group tours.
